Dear Colleagues,

It is with a great pain that I have to inform you that year 2008 turned out to be very fatal to our community.

October 19th brought the death of Jan van den Ende (Holland), Nestor of nature filmmakers, prizewinner at many festivals, including the Waga Brothers Festival. A man of courage and integrity, who throughout his life placed himself among those battling against violence and for the dignity and right to life of people and animals. A member of the Resistance Movement. A prisoner of Nazi camps. He was 86.

December 12th brought the tragic death on a Podlasie road of Maciej Faflak - a co-founder of our festival, chairman of its Jury. An oppositionist, in 1982-1989 an editor of underground publications. A talented filmmaker, historian and naturalist, a man of great knowledge and great modesty. He dedicated his heart and soul to everything that flies, crawls or leaps. He was 65 - his time was too short to make a home in the big forest.
