The filmmakers, journalists, scientists, ecologists, teachers and representatives of non-governmental organizations who were present at the symposium drafted a letter to Barack Obama, the President of the United States, concerning the issue, which shocked everybody:
President of the United States of America
Dear Mr President,
On seeing the disturbing film "Hear the Buffalo" about the hunting of wild bison of Yellowstone National Park by Gene Bernofsky, the participants of the 6th Waga Brothers International Festival of Nature Films (Tykocin, Poland, 24-28 March 2010) have resolved to express their opinion and ask You, Mr President, for help.
The United States of America are the world pioneer and leader of environmental protection. It was in the USA that the first national park was created and it was thanks to the efforts of American people that the buffalo have been saved from extinction. Following the example set by the USA, similar national parks were set up in Europe and in the 1920s efficient steps were undertaken to save the cousins of American buffalo - the European bison.
It is with great concern that we have learnt about the actions undertaken by state and federal authorities, which threaten the existence of American bison. Although it is estimated that there are half a million buffalo, only a small fraction - about 10 thousand are of pure blood and do not have any genes of domestic cattle in their genome. It means that both the American bison and the European bison are not numerous and they should be particularly protected. The buffalo living in Yellowstone National Park are probably one of the few herds of pure blood and as such they should be treated with utmost care. These buffalo, which are the genuine remains of the huge herds which once traversed the American prairies, should not be subjected to any hunting or private herding, which will not secure the purity of this species.
We appeal to You, Mr President, to stop the hunting and protect those buffalo which traditionally migrate from the park in winter. Hunting, especially as drastic as the one which took place in the late 2007 and early 2008, when over 1600 animals were killed, is a barbarism, which will jeopardize the future of this species - the species, which is so important and symbolic for America and the whole world. It is symbolic also because it is closely related to the culture of Native Americans. After long years of humiliation, more and more Native Americans graduate from universities, do research or work in the field of environmental protection. The Indian culture and traditions are their basic historical and sacred value.
The participants of the Festival, journalists, environmentalists, teachers and society leaders would like to express their opinion that the pure blood bison which live in the first national park in the world must be treated with particular care and their protection should be a priority for the authorities of the USA.

So far (28 March 2010), the letter has been signed by 39 people from: Belarus, Estonia, Israel, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, Ukraine and the USA.
Obecni na sympozjum filmowców, dziennikarzy, naukowców, ekologów, nauczycieli i przedstawicieli organizacji pozarządowych przygotowali list do Prezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych Baracka Obamy w sprawie, która wstrząsnęła wszystkimi:

Szanowny Panie Prezydencie,
Uczestnicy VI Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Filmów Przyrodniczych im. Braci Wagów (Polska, Tykocin, 24-28.03.2010 r.) po obejrzeniu wstrząsającego filmu Pana Gene Bernovsky "Hear the Buffalo" postanowili - zwracając się do Pana Prezydenta o pomoc - przekazać Panu swoje uwagi i stanowisko.
Stany Zjednoczone są prekursorem i liderem ochrony przyrody na świecie. To właśnie w USA powstał pierwszy na świecie park narodowy, to dzięki wysiłkowi amerykańskiego narodu uratowano bizony. Te działania stały się przykładem dla podobnych działań w Europie, gdzie wzorując się na poczynaniach amerykańskich zakładano parki narodowe, a w latach 20-ych zeszłego wieku podjęto skuteczne działania na rzecz uratowania kuzynów amerykańskich bizonów czyli żyjących na naszym kontynencie żubrów.
Z wielkim niepokojem odnosimy się do podejmowanych przez władze stanowe i federalne działań, które zagrażają amerykańskim bizonom. Co prawda ich liczebność jest szacowana na pół miliona sztuk, ale tylko niewielka część, bo około 10 tys. sztuk jest czystej krwi i nie posiada w swym genomie genów bydła domowego. Oznacza to, że jako gatunek zarówno amerykański bizon preriowy jak i bizon leśny są jeszcze bardzo mało liczne i powinny cieszyć się szczególnym statusem ochronnym. Na specjalną uwagę - jako prawdopodobnie jedno z niewielu stad o czystej krwi - zasługują bizony żyjące w Parku Narodowym Yellowstone. Te bizony, które są prawdziwą pozostałością po wielkich stadach przemierzających kiedyś amerykańskie prerie, nie powinny być obiektem polowań ani komercyjnych hodowli, w których nie można zapewnić czystości tego gatunku.
Apelujemy do Pana Prezydenta o wstrzymanie polowań, również na te bizony, które zimą opuszczają teren parku. Polowania zwłaszcza tak drastyczne jak to na przełomie 2007 i 2008 roku, gdy zabito ponad 1600 zwierząt, to barbarzyństwo mogące zagrozić przyszłości tego symbolicznego i ważnego dla świata i Ameryki gatunku. Symbolicznego również z racji ścisłego związku z kulturą rdzennych Amerykanów, Indian; po latach poniżeń coraz liczniejsi z nich zdobywają wyższe wykształcenie, pracując między innymi naukowo i w ochronie środowiska. Kultura i tradycje Indian stanowią szczególnie dla nich podstawową historyczną wartość.
Uczestnicy Festiwalu, filmowcy, dziennikarze, ekolodzy, nauczyciele, działacze społeczni pragną niniejszym wyrazić swoją opinię, iż bizony o czystej krwi, których domem jest pierwszy park narodowy na świecie, muszą być traktowane ze szczególną ostrożnością, a ich ochrona powinna być priorytetem dla władz USA.

Do chwili obecnej (28.03.2010) list podpisało 39 osób z: Białorusi, Estonii, Hiszpanii, Holandii, Izraela, Polski, Rosji, Ukrainy i USA.
- Gene Bernofsky (USA) paid us a great compliment: "You have the greatest potential of all the festivals in the world"... We hope it will be so...one day, in the near future. Thanks!
- There was a suggestion that we should reintroduce the amateur film category, which existed at the first two Festivals. We will be happy to do that if we receive at least a couple of such films of adequate quality.
- Another suggestion - and a very good one - was that all the finalist films presented to the public in the Polish version (Beta tapes) should have English subtitles. Unfortunately, we are not able to do that for financial reasons. Therefore, we are appealing to the producers: if only possible, send us Beta tapes with English subtitles!
- The participants underlined the high quality of the presented films. Thanks to the diversity of issues and habitats presented in the films, some of us had an opportunity to see some animals for the first time in their lives.
- The Festival, which is held in a school, has an important educational impact on young people.
- There was also a lively discussion about the problem of bringing alien species into different parts of the world, especially as sensitive as island ecosystems such as the Galapagos. Some people believe that such species should be removed at all costs (even if that involves, for instance, the liquidation of thousands of goats, like in the Galapagos). On the other hand, there are those who believe that any attempts aiming at restoring the original state of the environment are pointless in the times of massive and fast transportation, communication and tourism. It often happens that we introduce alien species unconsciously. Many of us agreed with the opinion that unless it is absolutely vital, we should not interfere. After all, nature will deal with the problem on its own. So - think three times before you act!
- Gene Bernofsky (USA) skomplementował nas niezwykle: "Macie największy potencjał ze wszystkich festiwali na świecie"... Chcielibyśmy, aby tak się stało... kiedyś, w nieodległej przyszłości. Dzięki!
- Padła propozycja, by przywrócić nagrodę za najlepszy film amatorski - tak, jak było to na dwóch pierwszych Festiwalach. Zrobimy to z przyjemnością jeśli dostaniemy chociażby kilka takich filmów na stosownym poziomie.
- Inna propozycja, bardzo słuszna, aby prezentowane na publicznych pokazach filmy finałowe w wersji polskiej (z kaset Beta) posiadały angielskie napisy. Niestety jest to nie do zrealizowania ze względów finansowych. Apelujemy więc do producentów: jeśli macie taką możliwość, przyślijcie nam Betę z angielskimi napisami!
- Podkreślono wysoki poziom prezentowanych filmów. Różnorodność problemów i biotypów spowodowała, iż można było zobaczyć zwierzęta, które po raz pierwszy ujrzeli niektórzy z nas.
- Festiwal, który odbywa się w szkole, pełni istotną rolę w wychowaniu młodzieży.
- Rozwinęła się też zażarta dyskusja na temat zawlekania obcych gatunków w różne rejony świata, szczególnie tak wrażliwe, jak ekosystemy wyspowe, np. Galapagos. Z jednej strony reprezentowany był pogląd, iż należy je bezwględnie zwalczać (nawet jeśli wymaga to likwidacji np. tysięcznych stad kóz - jak właśnie na Galapagos). Z drugiej strony uważano, iż przywracanie dawnego stanu środowiska jest bezcelowe wobec masowego i szybkiego transportu, rozwoju komunikacji, turystyki. W wielu wypadkach zawlekamy obce gatunki nieświadomie. Wiele osób zgodziło się z opinią, że tam gdzie nie jest to bezwzględnie konieczne - nie ingerować. W końcu przyroda sama sobie z problemami poradzi. A więc - trzy razy pomyśl, zanim zaczniesz działać!
...although we saw fewer birds than usual due to the atypical winter and early spring. Nevertheless, we found them on the large floodplains of the lower Biebrza River. We did some kayaking on the Narew - the unique multi-bed river, and we learned a lot from the employees of the Narew National Park.
- The exhibition "Animals in Polish double-cloth", which was prepared for us at the local museum, was very interesting.- We visited the 17th century synagogue and took pictures of the castle of King Zygmunt August (currently under reconstruction).
- We sang songs by the bonfire and our exhibition "IN HARMONY WITH NATURE" was, as always, a success.
- The happening "IN DEFENCE OF ALL CREATURES" was particularly successful.
- Hopefully, the CD with a reportage from the 6th Waga Brothers Festival will soon be delivered to the participants all over the world. And we hope to meet here again in 2 years!
...chociaż - skutkiem nietypowej zimy i przedwiośnia - ptaków widzieliśmy mniej niż zazwyczaj. Ale znaleźliśmy je na wielkich rozlewiskach dolnej Biebrzy. Pływaliśmy kajakami po Narwi - niezwykłej rzece wielu koryt, a naszą wiedzę poszerzyli pracownicy Narwiańskiego Parku Narodowego.
- Wielkie zainteresowanie wzbudziła przygotowana dla nas w muzeum wystawa "Zwierza w polskiej tkaninie dwuosnowowej".- Zwiedziliśmy synagogę z XVII wieku, fotografowaliśmy obronny zamek Króla Zygmunta Augusta (w odbudowie).
- Śpiewaliśmy przy ognisku, a jak zwykle udana była nasza wystawa "W ZGODZIE Z NATURĄ".
- Zupełnie niezwykle natomiast udał się happening "W OBRONIE WSZELKIEGO STWORZENIA".
- Płytkę z reportażem z VI Festiwalu im.Braci Wagów postaramy się wkrótce rozesłać po świecie. I mamy nadzieję spotkać się tu znów za 2 lata!

What a wonderful film festival you have organised! Such a diversity of animals from so many different habitats portrayed in interesting ways. Many different styles of films have been presentedand enjoyed by young and old. It's been such fun and I have been delighted and overwhelmed with the kindness and friendliness of the Polish people I have encountered. I shall treasure the double-cloth tapestry and try to share it of course with the rest of the team who have been responsible for "Australia - Land of Parrots". Thank you again and I'm sorry I am unable to communicate this personally in Polish.

Jak cudowny festiwal filmowy zorganizowaliście! Tak wielka różnorodność zwierząt z tylu różnych środowisk, sportretowana w ciekawy sposób. Przedstawiono filmy w wielu różnych stylach, a podziwiali je młodzi i starzy. Jakaż to była radość; otaczała mnie i zachwycała życzliwość i przyjaźń spotykanych Polaków. Starannie przechowam nagrodę publiczności - dwuosnowowy dywanik i rzecz jasna będzie on wspólną pamiątką całego zespołu, który pracował nad filmem "Australia - kraina papug". Jeszcze raz dziękuję i przepraszam, że nie mogłam tego wyrazić osobiście po polsku.
