Dear Friends - in - Films!
It is with a genuine pleasure that I inform you that the Fifth Waga Brothers International Festival of Nature Films will again be held in spring, in April 2008 , in quite a short time, indeed.
Then we shall meet again on the Route of the Atlantic-Siberian Flyway: all of us - the nature lovers and all the geese, cranes, ruffs...and the storks, of course.

Łomża-born Jakub Ignacy WAGA (1800-1872) was a teacher of natural history in Piarist monastery schools and the founder of an extensive herbarium, as well as a work on the respiratory organs of fish. His life's work was the two-volume Flora Polska written between 1847 and 1849.
Łomża-born Antoni Stanisław WAGA (1799-1890) was a teacher in Warsaw and an author of school textbooks, articles, translations, short stories and poems. He did scientific work in various branches of zoology, especially applied entomology, and was an organiser of academic life, as well as a participant on expeditions to Asia Minor and Africa.
From among the trees, from among the thick overgrowth which were once washed about by the Narew floodwaters, there emerge two spires of the huge Holy Trinity church. Inside it, illuminated by all the splendours of the Baroque interior, prominently displayed are the portraits of the founders of the church - Jan Klemens, a hetman, the last of the Branicki family bearing a griffon in their coat of arms, and his wife Izabella of the Poniatowski stock.
Their immense riches and ambitions, aspiring even to the royal crown, all began from earlier family ties of the house with Stefan Czarniecki - a Tykocin royal administrator, a famous commander-in-chief and national hero whose name has been immortalised in the lines of the Polish anthem. It is his monument that faces the church in the centre of a large square - the Tykocin field of Mars.
In keeping with the accepted custom of that time, the red-tiled mansard-roof of the Tykocin Great Synagogue had to be lower than the church spires, but it nevertheless seems to reach the skies. It was in this synagogue that the Jewish council - waad - would hold their deliberations, and the Jews had appeared here following the decision of another representative of once powerful clan - Olbracht Gasztołd, the first husband of Barbara Radziwiłł who later became the wife and a great love of King Sigismund Augustus - also the last of the Jagiellonian dynasty of Polish rulers. His original castle here has been recently rebuilt .Once it stood on an island surrounded by marshlands.
A rash decision to drain these lands in the 1970s resulted in a slight depletion of this splendid wildfowl refuge. Fortunately enough, a reliable plan for re-naturalisation has been drawn up, so everything should return to its proper place.
